We have all enjoyed the sleeping in, parties, treats, presents and weight gain that accompany the Holidays. But now, it is time to get back on track and get some of that free money for college! Hopefully some of you have been able to work on scholarship applications over the break, for those that have not, here is a list of scholarships and deadlines for January:
NICHE NO ESSAY CONTEST
Deadline: Last day of every month
Criteria: Anyone can apply, nothing is required other than creating an account
GE REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: January 4, 2018
-Demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship.
-Demonstrate financial need.
-Plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. for the entire 2018-2019 academic year.
Award: Up to $40,000 (20 awards nationally)
SOCIETY OF MILITARY ENGINEERS
Deadline: January 4, 2018
-College bound seniors interested in Engineering.
-250-500 word essay required on what attracts you to engineering and what you hope to contribute to society through a career in engineering.
Award: $1,800 (three awards)
RON BROWN SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Deadline: January 9, 2018
-African American seniors who excel academically, show leadership potential, and are involved in community.
Award: $10,000 per year for four years (20 or more awards)
USU RESIDENT ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: January 10, 2018
-Have at least one parent or grandparent that received their associates degree or higher from USU
-Meet general scholarship eligibility requirements
-The resident alumni scholarship cannot be deferred or held for a future term
ASIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Deadline: January 11, 2018
-Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity
-Complete FAFSA for 2018-2019 academic year
-Letter of recommendation submitted online
Award: $2,500 – $10,000 (500 awards nationally)
ACLU OF UTAH’S YOUTH ACTIVIST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: January 22, 2018
-Have demonstrated a strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism.
-Be a high school senor planning on entering an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student.
-Min. GPA of 3.0. If the GPA is less than 3.0, the student is still eligible, but must submit an explanation for the lower GPA.
-Complete a short application form, submit a high school transcript, write a 1,000-word essay, and obtain two recommendations from non-family references.
Award: Two $3,000 dollars awards and two $2,000 awards
USU QUINNEY SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: January 15, 2018
-High school or transfer students seeking a first or second bachelor’s degree.
-Scholarly achievement: high academic performance with special consideration given to Honors, AP, and classes related to the applicant’s chosen major (e.g. science and math courses).
-ACT composite of 27 or higher.
-GPA of 3.5 or higher.
-Activities/Leadership: involvement in school clubs, leadership experiences, related internships or extracurricular activities.
-Ability to communicate effectively.
-Personal interest, motivation, and desire to better understand and contribute to a field involving natural resources.
Award: $8,000 a year for four years
NATIONAL INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATORS ASSOCIATION (NIAAA) SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: January 31, 2018
-Applicant must have achieved at least two (2) of the following: (a) minimum of B+ average; (b) ranked in the top 25% of class; (c) ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (Verbal and Math only).
-Applicant must have participated in two sports for at least two years in each sport.
-Applicant must have earned at least one varsity letter in each of two sports.
-Applicant must complete attached scholar application.
-Applicant must have a letter of recommendation from the high school athletic administrator/director.
-School athletic administrator/director must be an NIAAA member and a member of their respective state athletic administrators association.
-The principal or athletic administrator/director must sign the application to ensure that the academic information submitted is accurate.
-All materials must be postmarked to the NIAAA Liaison in your respective state (select your state below to see due date and liaison contact information) no later than your states due date.
Award: 1 male and 1 female state winner, $1,500 (8 sections nationally), $2,500 (2 national awards)
UAEOP JUDY ANDERSON STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP (Seniors)
Deadline: January 31, 2018
-For business education students who wish to continue their education and pursue office-related careers, preferably in the educational field.
-College application submitted.
-Must have completed two or more year-long business education courses, 4 semesters, or 6 trimesters from among the following: computer classes, keyboarding/typing, marketing, business communication, accounting, office practices and procedures, bookkeeping, desktop publishing, and/or business law. (Courses may have been taken in high school, college, or a combination).
-Applicant must maintain 2.9 for the one-year period of the scholarship.
Keep in mind that the final deadline for the Regents’ Scholarship is due on February 1st, so if you have not completed this scholarship, now is the time to finish up.
For those interested in applying to Utah State University, the scholarship application deadline is January 10th.
