June 5-10, 2017 @ Weber State University
What is ALA Utah Girls State?
ALA Utah Girls State is a week long program created with the purpose of educating Utah’s youth about your duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about the inner workings of our government at the city, county, state, and national levels. You will “create and run” a state of your own. You will gain a deeper understanding of our nation, our flag, and those men and women who have served this great country, past and present.
The cost for Girls State is $350 which includes room, meals, supplies and 3 hours of university credit. You can get sponsors to assist you with the cost, of necessary. The payment will need to be paid by March 17th, 2017 if you are selected (following an interview) to attend Girls State.
Girls are eligible to attend if they are in the 2nd half of their junior year and on track to graduate. All girls must be citizens or legal residents of the United States. The Girls State program is looking for good students who are leaders in their schools and community. They want girls who have an interest in in government and civic issues. They want girls who have a desire to learn and are willing to participate in group settings.
If you are interested in attending Girls State and would like to be interviewed, please see Miss Black in the counseling office to sign up.
