Scholarship Updates

money + diplomaSeniors:  Now that you have applied to college you need to start working hard to complete scholarship applications!  I’ve posted new scholarships today that are due in December and January and I’m always updating the scholarship lists, so check them often. Make sure that you get deadlines on your calendar and start working on the applications now.  Remember, the one thing every scholarship student has in common:  THEY APPLIED!

LYNN JENSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Seniors)
Deadline:  December 12, 2014

Criteria:

-Seniors who plan tobecome a school counselor or public education teacher.
-Write an essay about a school counselor who has had a positive effect/influence on you and your school success.
-Submit transcript, ACT or SAT scores and two letters of recommendation.
Award:  $500

BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM (Seniors)

-Receipients are selected based on GPA, work experience, extra curricular activities/and or community service.

MHELPDESK VIDEO SCHOLARSHIP

-Create a 60 second video commercial for mehlpdesk.
-Video should be entertaining, funny, or otherwise interesting.

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria:
-ambition and drive
-determination to set and reach goals

NFIB YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARD PROGRAM (Seniors)

Criteria:
-Graduating high school senior who owns and operates his/her own small business.
-Must enter your freshman year at an accredited two- or four-year university, college or vocational/technical institute during the Fall 2015.
-The selection committee will consider the applicants’ academic records, extracurricular activities, leadership, and character.
-Evidence of entrepreneurial spirit and initiative will be heavily weighted.
Award:  $1,000 – $15,000 (105 awards)

FOOTLOCKER SCHOLAR ATHLETE

Criteria:
-Entering college in the Fall of 2014 as a Freshman at a four-year school for an undergraduate degree.
-Currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community-based sports.
-Minimum GPA of 3.0.
-U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (you will be asked to prove citizenship and age if you win).
-Not be an officer or director of Foot Locker, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries, or a member of the immediate family of such an officer or director.
Award:  $20,000 (20 awards, nationally)

MORIARTY’S GEM ART ROCK HOUND SCHOLARSHIP (Seniors)

ANNE FORD SCHOLARSHIP (Seniors)

-Be a graduating high school senior who will be attending a four-year bachelor’s degree program in the fall of 2014.
-Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4-point scale (or equivalent).
-Demonstrate financial need.
-Provide most current documentation of an identified learning disability.  (Please note:  ADHD alone is not considered to be a learning disability; eligible candidates with ADHD must also provide documentation of a specific learning disability.)
-Be a US. citizen

JOHN F. KENNEDY PROFILES IN COURAGE ESSAY CONTEST (9-12 GRADES)

Criteria:
-Write a 1,000 word essay on a U.S. elected official who has chosen to do what is right, rather than what is expedient.
-The contest challenges high school students to discover new profiles in courage, and to research and write about acts of political courage that occurred after the 1956 publication of John F. Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage.
Award:  $500-10,000 (multiple awards)

RON BROWN SCHOLAR PROGRAM (Seniors)

-African American seniors who excel academically, show leadership potential, and are involved in community.

GE–REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (Seniors)

Criteria:
-Demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship.

ASIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

ACLU OF UTAH’S YOUTH ACTIVIST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (Seniors)

Criteria:
-Have demonstrated a strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism.
-Be a high school senor planning on entering an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student.
-Min. GPA of 3.0.  If the GPA is less than 3.0, the student is still eligible, but must submit an explanation for the lower GPA.
-Complete a short application form, submit a high school transcript, write a 1,000-word essay, and obtain two recommendations from non-family references.

GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS (Seniors)

-Senior African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American.
-Students are nominated based upon academic qualification, particularly in math, science, engineering, education and library science.

-Scholarship winners are required to attend the Awards Reception on April 4, 2014.
