Over the past 2 years, I have learned a lot about scholarships! And I’ve also learned that a lot of what I thought I knew about scholarships is not actually true. When I meet with students and ask them what they know about scholarships, I realize that they also have a lot of misconceptions about scholarships. Some of the most common misconceptions are these:
Scholarships are only for top scholars and athletes.
Most scholarship awards are small and not worth the effort of applying.
Scholarships are only for seniors or I’ll wait until my senior year to work on scholarships.
Scholarship competition is too intense, it is not worth bothering.
Millions of scholarships go unclaimed.
Students and parents need to know the facts, and they need to know them early so that their scholarship search is effective. Take some time to review the following articles to determine if what you know about scholarships is True, or False.
